_Kilimanjaro Hope Organization has two (2) core areas in which most of her programs and activities are based on:
                                      I: Integrated and Sustainable-Development
                                      II: Relief and Emergency-Humanitarian assistance

                                      I: Integrated and Sustainable Development
The concept of “integrated and sustainable development” as for the Kilimanjaro Hope Organization is based on liberation of human kind in an integral and holistic manner; that is, a man must be supported to improve his/her livelihoods and gradually be freed from oppressive conditions so as to retain the human dignity. In pursuit of this focus, KIHO shall concentrate on the following areas of community development and improvement to support community felt needs and initiatives:
                                      Agriculture
Agriculture is the back bone of our country’s economy though done in traditional ways. Our area was famous in coffee and banana production in the past. Nowadays few farmers manage them due to failure in controlling diseases and climate changes brought by global warming   Our area of operation comprises of highlands and lowlands. The highlands are surrounded by the eastern arc zone forest called Shengena, the source of several permanent rivers, while the lowlands are dried areas with few perennial rivers. Both highland and lowland inhabitants practice hand hoe shifting cultivation and herdsmen especially in lowlands. Farming depends on unpredictable rain seasons hence harvesting is a matter of probability, and hunger strikes our community frequently.  We are looking forward to introduce pipe and drip irrigation programmers in order to solve the following problems using our few rivers and underground water;  (a) Environmental and Biodiversity destruction caused by shifting cultivation, herding castles and other unnecessary   man's actions.  (b)Frequently hunger due to unpredictable rains and local methods of farming.  (c)Poverty within the community.  Volunteers are needed to teach/ train our farmers modern techniques and technologies in farming especially in contour  farming, irrigation and zero tillage system

Organic food crop production and storage.
Promotion of varieties of less water consuming dry season gardening technologies/drip irrigation & kitchen gardening.
Small scale food processing and parking in home industries.
                                      Improvement of animal husbandry.
Plant and post-harvest protection and promotion of organic pest control.
Construction and improvement of agricultural infrastructures.
Agricultural education through training seminars and workshops.
Promotion of the use of appropriate agricultural technology and relevant inputs.
                                      Conducting agricultural research and services.

                                      Water Supply, Hygiene and Sanitation
Mainstreaming water resource management and control into community development projects.
Assisting the community in good practices of protection of water resource.
Coordination and support in improving drinking water infrastructures for better supply, extension and effective management.
Providing education and material support for effective use of waste water, management and disposal.
Educating the local community on development, appropriate and efficient use of water from seasonal river and water catchments.

Promotion of Household woodlot planting and promotion of the use of improved wood serving stoves.
Promotion of appropriate bio-fuel plat such as jatropha curcus which has an added advantage as for erosion control on high slop farming and production of oil for soap making.
                                      Encourage and promote forestry research.
Environmental/forestry education/training (e.g. environmental policy administration and management, village land use and management, education on cabbage disposal, flood prevention and control, site preservation and development for future eco-tourism etc).
                                      Alternative energy generation and supply
Promotion of appropriate power generation/renewable sources e.g. solar energy, wind power and biogas.
Promotion of energy education/training and research.
ECO AND CULTURAL TOURISM: Kilimanjaro has a lot of potentials to attract eco and cultural  tourism and some of them need to be identified and developed .Some of these are Shengena forest, waterfalls, and other cultural  forests which used by different clans in the past in ritual activities .In fact we need some volunteers/researchers to work together to identify and develop these potentials so that the community can benefit from them. Expert volunteers are needed to develop this sector.
                                      Beekeeping
Promotion of improved technology of making beehives and beekeeping.
Description: We want to use beekeeping as a tool of attaining poverty alleviation, environment conservation and biodiversity conservation through establishing bee reserve and production of beekeeping equipment at cheap prices. Our NGO wants to ensure that beekeeping equipment and production and preparation of all other primary and secondary bee products are modernized so as to attain high quality and quantity of honey. We also want to use beekeeping as our major activity to revert and conserve our environment, source of nutrition, self-employment and income generating function of our people as alternative source of income rather than cutting trees and for desert. This project is a key measure towards environmental conservation, poverty alleviation and food production if carried out using modern technology. Through this project people will learn and see the value of trees and other plants. Food production will also increase due to increase o bee’s pollination. Beekeepers also will increase their earnings by selling honey and other bees’ products. Last but not list they will improve their diet through consumption of honey. However the present situation of this field is not good. The following are some of the problems facing this sector  (1)Beekeepers are using tradition ways which fail them to get quality and quantity honey and     other related bees products.  (2) The use of log hives contributes much to environment destruction and lowers the quality and      quantity of honey.  (3) Harvesting using fire in most of the time causes bush fire, destruction of bee colonies and      smoked honey.     Our aim is to teach and train our beekeepers in; preparation of beekeeping tools, production of Colonies, supervision of beehives (management of apiaries),  harvesting honey, preparations of other bee’s by products, environment destruction, honey sanitation, forestation,  etc. To fulfill the above we request volunteers who can teach and train our people about modern beekeeping technologies, environmental conservation and research. To start with volunteers and the community will work towards starting learning centers which will be used to provide practical knowledge to different groups of beekeepers and researchers.
                                          The specific objectives:
*To prevent and control land degradation, water, vegetation and air which constitute our life support system.
*To conserve and enhance our natural and man-made heritage including the biological diversity of the unique eco-system around our area.
*To alleviate poverty through improving the condition.
*To raise community awareness and understanding of the essential linkage between sustainable development and sustainable environments well as promoting individuals and community participation in beekeeping and environmental actions.
*To ensure suitable assistance of honey bees for maintaining and effectively managing bee reserve.
*To improve quality and quantity of honey, bee wax and other bee related products so as to capture national and international markets.
*To increase self-employment among our community members, hence improving their economical position and their living standards.
*To develop Eco and culture tourism around the area. This kind of tourism has already been started in our district especially in villages around Shengena Forest but more effort is needed to develop it. Tourism services and facilities such as observation of bee/beehives, package of comb honey, buying of honey etc.

                                      II: Relief and Emergency-humanitarian assistance
A relief/humanitarian aid is called upon to rescue the people who have been affected by a kind of crisis (disaster/hazard) and as a result they are unable to cope with the impacts of an event that could have caused severe damage, destruction, serious loss injury or death. The vulnerable people, most often the poor, find it hard to respond to, and recover from the impacts of hazard.
The Kilimanjaro Hope Organization (KIHO), has dedication and commitment to whole heartedly address and intervene on the events of emergency occasioned by natural or man made catastrophes such as floods, fire outbreak ,earthquakes, storms etc and famine situation usually caused by spells of drought, in addition to emergency action.

KIHO shall therefore concentrate on the following areas of emergency and disaster interventions:

                                      Disaster Prevention and Preparedness
Involving the community, local authorities and organizations to produce a village risk map with all helpful information included.
Sensitizing people to start considering the different risks and hazards that might face their village.
Influencing villagers to work on several interventions so as to lower their risks to different types of disasters.
Guiding the community in the process of establishing village response plan defining the responsibilities of each stakeholder.
